And the LORD gave them rest on every side, just as he had solemnly promised their ancestors. None of their enemies could stand against them, for the LORD helped them conquer all their enemies. (Joshua 21:44, NLT) God gave His people rest on every side, until they settle down on primised land -Canaan. God made all the enermies defeated in front of them so any other tribes couldn't dare to attack them. Now we need to mention one point of truth clearly. It's that God doesn't plan for only good things to happen in our lives. Sometimes He allows kind of situations that His people don't want to accept in their lives - like 'darkness' or 'tribulation'. I create the light and make the darkness. I send good times and bad times. I, the LORD, am the one who does these things. (Isaiah 45:7, NLT) God create the peace but He also create the tribulation. This land is the bloody world under control of the law of retribution - in this world people pay back what they receice, an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth. This kind of law has continued to controled the world, whether in modern or ancient society. "Now tell the Israelites to designate the cities of refuge, as I instructed Moses. Anyone who kills another person accidentally and unintentionally can run to one of these cities; they will be places of refuge from relatives seeking revenge for the person who was killed. (Joshua 20:2-3, NLT) God allowed the system of 'the cities of refuge' in order to pretect those who killed another person accidently. For example, suppose someone goes into the forest with a neighbor to cut wood. And suppose one of them swings an ax to chop down a tree, and the ax head flies off the handle, killing the other person.
